Every author had a purpose, 
or a reason, for writing.  An author may write to entertain, 
to inform, to persuade, or to teach a lesson.  Author's may have 
more than one purpose for writing. 
    
An author may also have a perspective in 
his or her writing.  An 
author's perspective is how the author feels about the subject.  Readers 
can use details in the text as clues to the author's purpose and perspective.

Study: Plays
Plays are 
stories that can be performed for an audience.  As you read look for 
character's names introducing dialogue, and stage directions describing how the 
characters move on stage.
